Events 2005 - Balaji Mandir Darshan
Bharat Group on 9 October
Service members of Bharat Group decided to dedicate a service event to take
residents of Sabarmati and Ashra Houses, as well as inviting guests from Age Concern
and meals on wheels. In total there were 21 guests and 20 volunteers on the day.
The group went to the Shri Venkateswara (Balaji) Temple in Tividale, Oldbury. Lord
Venkateswara, also known as Balaji, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Everyone met at Ashra House for 8 in the morning and set off to the temple arriving just before 10 a.m.
Refreshments were served to all with phaplas, mircha, jelabi and biscuits, as well as
hot and cold drinks. Then the guests were escorted upstairs to the temporary temple
(as the temple is still under construction), and seats were provided for all. The atmosphere
was peaceful but spiritually charged. The temple priest started the main Balaji pooja at 10.30,
followed by abhishekum and bhajans by members of our group, which was well received.
Aarti followed and then prasadam was given to all. We all then went to the marquee for
prasadam and then embarked on our way back to Leicester. It was a wonderful day and
our guests enjoyed it very much, with smiles galore.
